I'm a teacher at a school for the deaf and hearing impaired. Through my job I've come in contact with many parents who have taught their children sign language before they even learned how to talk. I've heard it makes things much easier around the home when the child can visually show you what it wants/needs.
I've done some research on this and obvious due to my career I am very interested in taking my newborns down this route when the time comes.
I'm wondering if anyone has any first hand experience at this. What are some of the positives/negatives? How old was your child when you started?
Any feedback would be great!

i started teaching my daughter sign at 7 months. and since i was learning myself from books, i taught her the basics like "more" "eat" "all done" "please" "bath" and "diaper" and honestly, im glad i did. Studies say that babies that are taught sign develop faster language skills but honestly, i appreciated it more for the fact that i knew what my child wanted, whether it was to eat or that she was done. It cut down on frustrations for the both of us.
