I grew up with my mother teaching me a little bit of sign language here and there, since she was an interpreter at schools around the state. But she's since passed away, and I'm really wanting to learn sign language for real.
So does anyone know of a website where I could learn sign language without having to pay for it?

http://www.lifeprint.com has a great dictionary and offers a beginning ASL course FREE. The more advanced classes I think require a one time payment.
This isn't really classes, but http://www.signingtime.com/forums is a great resource. There's even a "How Do You Sign……?" section.
You could also go to the following web addresses to see videos containing signs:
http://www.youtube.com/BabyBundle
http://www.youtube.com/EFOMERCIALS
http://www.youtube.com/SigningTime
http://www.signingtime.com/shop?product_bundles=21 – Click each DVD and near the bottom of the page will be a video that has a preview of the DVD. This video contains signs!
http://www.signingtime.com/resources/videos – This page contains tons of videos with signs! Some might be the same as the ones in the link above, but there are some other ones here, especially if you read the text above the video player.
Remember, ASL word order is object-subject-verb, not subject-verb-object like English.
