Anybody Out Here Born Deaf, and Uses Sign Language?

May 3, 2009

I sometimes see either families dining out(which I did, the other day...) I really tried not to be so obviously rude by staring..but, I was soooo curious...Its hard..and I don't mean to watch so closely at times, but, I am very, very, curious as to what it must be like to have deaf parents..you know growing up with them,...if you are the kids that are from the hearing world!
I apologize to all who if you have been" watched",and or totally stared at...I know that it is really obnoxiously rude! Sometimes people are also wishing that they could be like you!( I sometimes wish that I could sign a lot better...as I have a really hard time finger reading..!(I took american sign lanuguage for interest and for fun...in junior college! I enjoyed it alot! It was rather difficult though...but, my friend and I would pracitice on the buses a lot! People thought that we were deaf! We just loved to sign is all!)
I have since met other deaf people..I try to say things to them!
Not easy for me! lol!
I would like to ask as well, if you tend to really stay with friends and family who understand you, rather than reach out to those who are from the hearing world?.,,(this is what my instructor used to tell us all of the time!)
What would you like the hearing world to know more about you, as a deaf person(or, "hearing impaired" or whatever you prefer.)...would you mind if "hearing" people wanted to get to know you, and learn your language?
(Yes, actually, for those who have no clue...sign language is actually a complete language!)
There are many different types of sign languages as well! There are different dialects,,and signs as well!
I had also learned this thru some other books, and on some t.v. shows about gangs who are deaf as well!
Also, the Native Americans use hand signs and so many other cultures as well!

but, to get back...what do you think, and how do you honestly feel?

thanks for the help!
I would hope to meet some more of you,and to say hello!

I am not deaf but i do know sign language…..
One day me and my friend went to the public library and we checked out a book about sign language. It was so interesting!!Every day we'd read a page and by the end of a month we knew how to do sign language!Since then i have been really interested in people with problems and i have been helping them.People think that just because someone is deaf or is missing 2 legs…that they are different.and they are in a way…but theres nothing bad about being different.Everybodys different.
I wish that one day everybody would know sign language so we could all communicate. That be really great.
