Anyone Out There Practice Sign Language With Their Newborn?

July 25, 2009

I read that early communication with your baby is possible and leads to a happier baby....what do you all think?
I read this book that says start as early as 1-month old but to make sure that you say the word with the sign. The book said that the sign language will be imprinted forever in the child's mind and will be able to use it fluently for the rest of their lives. Anyone hear of this or experience it?

Many parents are using sign languages with their little ones, and it’s a wonderful thing. :) Newborn is too young to understand, of course, but once they are a bit older, it’s definitely worthwhile.

When my daughter, born with a cleft lip/palate, began speech therapy at a very early age, the ST incorporated sign language with the verbal speech.
