Can anyone suggest a good British Sign Language book for beginners?

I'm really interested in learning and l am planning to do a course at college next year but i'd like to start learning about it now. I've heard some books are completely useless and over complicated. Anyone know which ones are good and which ones to avoid? I don't just want to learn, I want to understand too.
