Can You Help Me to Understand This Song “Amazing Grace”?

June 4, 2009

I am Deaf, so I see some words are repeat like 'sound'. What does this mean? I can't hear, so I can't try to picture. Also this song use a lot of old line or idioms. It is hard for me to understand almost each line. I would love to understand this song and imagine what this song about. I will have to sing a song with sign language. I would be very grateful if you could help me to understand this song. Thank you very much
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

essentially this song is about salvation through Christ.

lines such as "I once was lost, but now am found" means that I used to be a sinner who did not know God, but now I have accepted salvation.

it goes on to speak of toils and trial and how through salvation, a person can overcome these obstacles.

It is staffed mostly by volunteers and intends to raise the profile of translating services and the necessity for such services. References : http://www.asli.org.uk / default.aspx http://www.kwintessential.co.uk / BSL / ASLI.html.

The most evident is the power to talk with your kid, while their peers can only cry. After doing this for a couple of weeks, she took away the bottle and signed ‘milk’ without basically pronouncing the word.
