Could I Get Into UC Berkeley?

July 8, 2009

I maintained a 3.5 GPA throughout my freshman and sophomore year, but never exceeded 4.0. I am in Peace Jam, Visual Arts Society, NHS, and participated in the fall play. I also took some art classes outside of school, and this summer I am taking ASL classes (I'm hearing impaired, fyi) as well as voice and tennis lessons. I am going to join the tennis team next year (as a junior) and I am taking these classes:

Chemistry X
IMP 3
AP Euro History
AP American Gov
AP Lang and Comp
AP Studio Arts
Competitive Speech X

(You are only allowed 7 classes per semester in my school)
I plan on taking school work more seriously for the next two years, but I'm afraid I've already screwed myself over in terms of getting into UC Berkeley. I have started to study for my ACT and SAT exams, and I will begin studying for the subject tests sometime in the next few weeks.

Get a good SAT score to balance out your GPA, and try to play up the hearing impaired "disability" because colleges like diverse people. Make sure to get good grades next year, and keep yourself well rounded. Good luck!
