I swear I have seen the same hand gestures from many different infants.
For example, I was behind an infant in church. She looked at me and kept pointing up. Another example is the opening and closing of the hand. EVERY infant I have seen does that when looking at an adult. It's like they're asking for something.
I vaguely remember some research on this somewhere. I can't find anything however. All I get are sites about teaching your baby sign language.
Anyone know anything about this? Sites? Experience?

I’m not sure about hand gestures, though you’re probably right. I do know that different sounds mean different things and the sounds are the same for all babies. Check out Dunstan’s Baby Language. I borrowed this video from a friend and it worked miracles. It teaches you how to listen for certain sounds. Ex. "Neh" means hungry. Also, when your baby starts babbling, they have so many hand gestures and facial expressions that you know they must really be trying to tell you something.
