I am teaching myself sign language and I think I am going to end up going to Rock Valley Community College and then I am going to go to a college for a criminal justice and human services masters degree. But.. I don't know if sign language is considered as a second language to community colleges or colleges like Columbia or Upper Iowa Unniversity. Can any one help me out here??
I already planned on taking courses once I get into my community college if they have it there.
Is Sign Language Considered to Be a Second Language?

Yes, American Sign Language is officially recognized as a foreign language. It has different structure, idioms and a separate community that utilizes the language. Weather or not your colleges recognize that, is a completely different story, you do however have grounds on which to fight it if you wish to use it as a second language instead of an elective since the USA has deemed it a second language.
