I've already changed the Regional settings and the language to English United Kingdom - still prints out " for an @ sign which is annoying and i can't get the pound sign or half of the other symbols.
only happened when i formatted it, can anyone help?? annoyed

When you changed your regional settings that also changed the settings for your keyboard. You can see what your layout is like here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout#United_Kingdom.
If you look the @ is above the single quote on the UK keyboard.
You can either get an international keyboard or restore your regional settings.
