YES! Our son is now a year old. We started signing at 6 months with the sign eat. Even though babies can't sign yet that early because they don't have perfect control over their hands yet, but you can still start before they're ready to sign so they see it and you get used to doing it. Our son started signing eat at about 9/10 months. So far he knows the signs for eat, drink, more, milk, hot, all done/all gone, no, yes, good boy/girl or whoever else is good, no touch and up. We're working on toilet next so when he's ready to potty train, he'll be able to tell me he has to use the potty. Other good signs to learn are mama, dada, kitty, doggy, cold, pain.
I suggest barrowing books from the library. You don't have to use the exact signs they use, make up whahever is comfortable and easy to remember. We have the baby einstein sign language dvd that he watches. He likes watching all the babies and little kids on there.
It is definitely good to teach sign language, especially during the "terrible twos" so you can communicate with each other and not get so stressed and upset when you don't know what they need. It may take a while for them to start signing, but don't give up. Once they start, they'll be eager to learn more!
Good luck
Oh yeah! Don't forget to teach them Please and Thankyou!
