Just out of curiosity. How many of you are teaching your babies how to sign?
I have been signing with my son since he was 1 month old. He is almost 10 months old now, and its the cutest thing when he makes the sign for milk to me.
But he isn't making any other signs. We have taught him a lot, but he refuses to do anything but milk.
Is that normal? And he understands the other signs, but he just wont make them.
Any advice?
i try forming his hand for him...he just laughs at me.
we do milk, eat, cheerios, all gone, more, sleep, thank you, cat, dog, mama, and baba.
i can see the look in his face that he understands me. but he won't make the signs.
he is exactly 9 1/2 months. and he started making the milk sign at 5 months but now we are stuck!
any other suggestions??
we also do the 'no touch' sign.....but he just ignores me on that one.
am i expecting to much out of him too soon??
at 5 months he would open and close his hand for milk when i asked him to. at 7 months he would sign as he was drinking all on his own. now he tells me he wants milk on his own.
but what about the other signs?
thank you for all of the advice. i guess i am just going to have to be patient.
but im sure you can all understand. its soo cute seeing him sign that i am really eager to see him do more.
i saw this kid on youtube...she was a signing genius. but she was much older.
thanks again

My triplets are nearly 11 months old and we have been doing baby sign, like you, from early on.. one of my babies will do about 20 signs.. one does 7 or 8 and my third will only do 2. Just like yours though they all understand all the signs.
I would say it is fairly normal.. I also help mine make the signs.. they do much better when I do that… also how I believe one of mine learned like 7 new signs one day..
Worth a shot.. good luck
