have any of you tried it? would you try it?
when did you start it and how long did it take for your baby to really get the hang of it? can you recommend any books that worked?
I'm thinking about looking at books to buy, but I don't know if trying sign language and teaching it would be fruitless - I mean, I kind of can tell most of the time when he's hungry/needs a diaper change/etc.
what do you think about it?
(for the record, I have a hearing baby).
josephine, aren't the signs are the same for both ASL and baby sign language? but with the baby version, you just use one word hand signals, like "milk" and "more," like you would normally speaking to a baby anyways?

We do a little bit of baby sign language. I think it's a great way to communicate with your baby. I also think that you can create your own signs vs. buying a specific book ( we did this) . Unless you plan on continuing to teach sign language ( to become "fluent") I think that's fine!
It took my little one a while before she started signing things back. She actually said " more" before she signed it. With us, baby sign language would be more helpful NOW ( at a year old) than when she was a little younger. What I mean by that is, at a year old, she is always pointing to things that she wants to see or touch . We can teach her the signs for those things and she uses them more readily. When she was younger, she had few needs and so she didn't use the signs as much.
i hope that makes sense!
